A contest I don’t want to win

I recently read a list of questions you shouldn’t ask a SAHM like “what do you do with all that free time?” Then I read a list of questions you shouldn’t ask a woman WITHOUT kids, like “what do you do with all that free time?” (yes, the question was on both!) Then I read a list of things you shouldn’t ask a pregnant woman. I feel the overall theme of these lists is a contest to see who among us is the most frazzled. Why are we doing this to our fellow women? Since a list of “dont’s” doesn’t help people figure out what to do instead, here is my list of what you SHOULD say to a SAHM or pregnant woman. Let’s turn the tide and spread a little love and empathy, shall we? What would you add?

To a pregnant woman:
“You look great/fabulous/beautiful!”
“You’ll be a fantastic mom.”
“The birth will go just fine and be a wonderful story.”

To a SAHM:
“You’re doing a great job.”
“Tell me about your day.”
“You made the right choice.” (Also applies to WAHM, working moms, single moms, women with no kids, women with 10 kids, the list goes on)
“Your husband is a wonderful father.”
“Your kids are beautiful.”

To both:
“When is a good day for me to drop off dinner for you?”
